My approach to massage is informed not only by the training I received in massage school, but also by continuing education courses, self-directed study and hours of hands-on experience with the many clients I’ve had the honor of working with. My massage style is grounded in Swedish massage techniques with a tendency toward deep relaxation; I believe a relaxed body is a healing body. When we unwind and fully let go, our stress levels automatically decrease so that our cells can repair more easily. For injuries or chronic conditions I may also incorporate gentle stretching, passive range of motion, myofascial release, trigger point therapy and deep tissue massage techniques. However, I firmly believe that massage does not have to be painful to be effective and I fully dismiss the “no pain, no gain” philosophy. I prefer to work with the body, not against it, and while some aspects of massage can be uncomfortable, I maintain open channels of communication with my clients so that if something does hurt, I can make adjustments to techniques or positioning. Your comfort is paramount.
My massage style is appropriate for many types of clients because I tailor each session to your specific needs for that day. I work with a wide range of clients including working parents who are stressed and seeking restoration of the mind and body, manual laborers with overuse injuries, desk-dwellers with work-related tension patterns, athletes needing focused work and folks just beginning their self-care journeys.
